Hi, I'm Helen.

From legal advocate to user advocate

I create clarity out of ambiguity through generative and evaluative research where I balance qualitative and quantitative methodologies and techniques.  As a former attorney, I focus on critical thinking, evidence-based design, and data-driven decision-making. I evangelize research in every step of the UX design process and strive to uncover the “why” that drives individual choices and behavior by digging deep to find the true problem.

More about me:

I grew up in Texas and went to the University of Texas at Austin. Go Horns! Keep Austin Weird! While studying to be a professional classical violinist, I learned about ethnomusicology and decided to pick up another degree in Asian Studies. I wrote my senior thesis on the intersection of music and cultural identity. I moved to the Pacific Northwest for law school and fell in love with the rain.

I’ve always been interested in finding out what drives human behavior and what makes people tick. I took a 3-month sabbatical from law to volunteer full time with dementia patients in memory care homes. I started tracking trends and behavior in a spreadsheet to find ways to better connect with the residents through art, music, and stories.

I also love cats and am a cat mom to four kitties.

Connect with me!
